Lives
National development is about people.
Our people should be at the heart of
every policy, project and programme,
and should fully enjoy the benefits that
come from them. Our people cannot be
bystanders in the development process.
We believe our people are entitled to a decent
standard of living, assured security and the
opportunity to pursue their goals and ambitions.
They deserve support and should never be
hindered by political interference or bias.
Our plan has five core parts. The NDP will:
Create more better paid jobs
Make our country safe
Invest in Agriculture, Tourism, the Blue
Economy and the New Economy to boost
these important sectors and create
thousands of jobs.
Spend more on crime prevention,
investigation and prosecution - including
community policing, better training for
police, use of modern technology, and the
establishment of a forensic lab.
Establish the National Development Bank
that will support local businesses, whether
they are just starting out or looking to
expand.
Gain access to new markets at home and
abroad to increase exports of Vincentian
products.
Raise wages and tackle the
high cost of living
Reduce VAT from 16% to 13%.
Remove VAT from more local commodities.
Establish two VAT-free shopping days.
Roll out targeted duty-free concessions for
businesses and public servants.
Ensure we protect victims of crime and that
they are fully supported.
Deliver more opportunities for
young people
Fulfil our Youth Guarantee Pledge to
provide a job, skills training or an internship
to every young person.
Provide opportunities for young people to
go into business for themselves through
the National Development Bank.
Pay the CAPE/CSEC fee and eliminate fees
at the community college and secondary
schools.
Invest in critical infrastructure
Improve roads across the country, joining up our country.
Repair and upgrade existing infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, jetties and government
buildings.
