The Current Crisis: Failure and
Broken and
Failure
Promises
Broken Promises
Our economy is stagnant. Our
productive sectors are unable to
compete in global markets. Local
businesses are struggling and very few
jobs are being created.
One in five people are out of work, and 40% of
our youth cannot find a job. As a result, many
leave our shores in search of opportunity abroad,
not only in North America, but also in other OECS
countries. We have fallen behind.
The most recent data exposes the
devastating reality:
The current government has presided
over a situation where one in four
Vincentians are poor.
The OECS Enhanced Country Poverty
Assessment (St Lucia) presented in
2025, shows a staggering 25.8% of
our population was classified as poor
and unable to afford the basic annual
consumption needs.
Under the ULP administration, the cost
of meeting basic nutritional needs, the
indigence (food poverty) line, has risen
sharply by an alarming 28.5% between
2008 and 2018.
Good governance requires:
Transparency and accountability in the
way public property and public money
are used.
Putting aside partisan bias and instead
using merit-based principles for hiring
and promotion in the public service.
A commitment to fairness and the rule of
law.
We have one of the lowest economic
growth rates in the Eastern Caribbean.
This has resulted in increasing hardship
and poverty. The fault lies with a tired,
out of touch ULP Government that has
failed to deliver on its promises and has
lost sight of the needs of the people.
For too long, the people of St. Vincent and the
Grenadines have been trapped in a deepening
cycle of poverty and vulnerability. This is not an
accident of nature; it is a structural crisis made
worse by the neglect and failed policies of the ULP
administration between 2001 to 2025. The facts
are clear, and they demand urgent change.
It is time for change! It is time for good
governance!
We must do better. Our people should be
empowered to build livelihoods here. To
accomplish this, we must create conditions for
sustained economic growth and put an end to the
ULP’s long record of broken promises.
We need leadership that has a vision for a brighter
future for all Vincentians and a government that
has a plan to get us there, by placing our people
at the centre of every decision.
The last 25 years of the ULP’s poor
planning and mismanagement have
stifled our country’s growth and made
life harder. The cost of living and taxes
continue to rise while wages remain low.
TOGETHER WE WIN!
