A Special Development Plan
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
is a country of wonder and beauty.
We are a people of ambition,
energy, and enthusiasm.
Nowhere is this more personified than in the
north of the country. The three constituencies
of North Windward, North Leeward and
North Central Windward together represent
the geographic and spiritual ‘north’ of
our country. Taken together, it is home to
nearly 28,000 people and covers a space of
approx. 125 square kilometres, nearly half of
the island.
There is a tremendous opportunity in
front of us, to build up the north as an
economic powerhouse. We can create one
of the largest and most beautiful spots
in the Caribbean for bio and eco-tourism.
Moreover, the north has a huge opportunity
to increase its output of agriculture and
other activities.
Our Nine Point Plan
for the North
When elected, an NDP government will
ensure the following by the end of our term
of office:
1.
Construct a new road in North Leeward
to further open up the constituency for
business and jobs.
2.
Introduce a new state guaranteed
ferry service linking North Leeward and
North Windward, and joining up the
whole country.
3.
Open a new health facility in each
constituency.
4.
Create a national biodiversity tourism
zone and visitor centre.
5.
Create an international advertising
campaign to market the north as a
centre for global sustainable tourism.
6.
Ensure all those entitled to volcano
payments receive them.
7.
Increase investment in agriculture and
increase land for farmers.
8.
Invest in new local youth facilities
across each constituency.
9.
Support locals in North Windward to set
up guest houses/Airbnbs and eco-tours,
such as turtle hatching, on Big Sands
beach.
