NDP Manifesto 2025 - Flipbook - Page 21
Raising Wages and Tackling
the High Cost of Living
Inflation and high taxes, coupled with
the lowest wages in the Caribbean, have
made it very difficult for people to get by.
The NDP will provide immediate relief and raise
wages over the coming years.
We will:
Reduce VAT from 16% to 13% so goods are
cheaper, and you have more money in your
pocket.
Remove VAT on essentials like fresh food
and medicines to reduce the price of these
important products.
Introduce VAT free shopping days on
the 1st Monday in August and December
to make back-to-school and Christmas
shopping more affordable.
Establish a National Innovation Hub
to support entrepreneurs to create new
businesses, monetise their ideas and build a
better future.
Establish a Ministry for Private Business
to ensure a single point of contact for
businesses with government - streamlining
engagement, cutting costs and improving
efficiency, so businesses can hire more
workers.
Construct a TVET Centre of Excellence to
ensure that everyone has the ability to grow,
develop and find higher paying jobs.
Establish service and hospitality training
as part of the TVET Centre of Excellence.
Remove VAT on domestic electricity so bills
are lower.
Pay a bonus to public servants to support
them.
Pay $500 to parents of each newborn child.
Provide 50% import duty concessions to
public servants with at least 10 years of
service to purchase a vehicle for personal
use.
Establish the National Jobs and Skills
Agency to help identify and ensure we have
the right skills to help people access higher
paying jobs, rather than relying on foreign
workers.
Establish the National Development Bank
to support local businesses, farmers, and
fisherfolk to invest in new stock to create
more jobs.
TOGETHER WE WIN!
