Delivering More Opportunities
for Young People
Building the future of SVG must include
supporting and developing our youth,
our most precious resource. This means
improving the availability and quality
of training opportunities, ensuring all
young people have access to quality
education here and abroad.
Youth Guarantee Pledge
We need to increase the skills base of
our country and ensure that our country
is preparing our young people for the
future world of work. At the same time, we
believe that it is vital that we ensure that
young people have a voice in the national
discussion. We need to build an economy
that will deliver real and noticeable
improvement in wages, creates more jobs,
encourages the growth of new business and
offers opportunity for our young people to
live and work here in SVG.
We will:
Implement our Youth Guarantee Pledge to
ensure everyone has the opportunity for a
job, training course or an internship.
Implement our National Athlete
Programme to support the next generation
of talented athletes and help them to
achieve their potential.
Offer young creatives duty-free
concessions to purchase new equipment to
grow their business.
Maintain the interest rate of 4.5% on
student loans and provide a grace period
of six months after graduation, to reduce
the financial burden and stress that many
students currently face.
Re-establish the National Youth Council
on a statutory basis to advocate for young
people as a reliable and independent
advisor.
Maintain and expand scholarships so that
young people have more opportunities to
study and make the most of their talent.
Offer young entrepreneurs start-up loans
through the National Development Bank to
help them set up new businesses or expand.
Raise the base rate paid out by the YES
programme to $650 a month.
Enhance the YES Programme by expanding
it to the private sector that will employ YES
workers for up to one year and match the
government contribution.
Develop skills training in local community
centres through TVET. This will sit alongside
our national TVET Centre of Excellence.
